March 19th 2020, Cleveland Skydiving Center received word that the Ohio Department of Health issued a Director’s Order closing hair salons, movie theatres, nail salons, tattoo parlors etc in an attempt to help slow the spread of Covid-19. At this time, management at Cleveland Skydiving Center came to a decision to halt operations and shortly thereafter, a Stay at Home order for Ohio residents was mandated by our Governor. That order went into effect at 11:59pm on April 6th and will remain in effect until May 1st at 11:59pm. At this time, we have not received any further information if any other stay at home orders will be implemented after the current Amended Stay At Home Order is lifted. Information on the current order can be found at Amended Stay at Home Order.
On April 15th, Governor DeWine Stated, “We have seen in the last week that Ohio has appeared to flatten the curve, and we feel much better about the capacity of hospitals today.”. With the recommendations of the health department and our Governors office, it is our plan to re-open with limited operations on May 2nd. Although we do not feel that contracting Covid-19 at our facility is any more likely than contracting it at a supermarket, or the park, numerous safety measures and precautions are going to be taken to ensure that we do our best to eliminate as much risk as possible to keep our customers and staff virus free.
Upon arrival at Cleveland Skydiving Center please understand that we are not operating under normal procedures. We are asking that all spectators to please remain in their vehicles until their family or friends are actually skydiving. We will have a specific picnic table set up for you to go to when your jumper is on call for your front row view of their jump. Students are asked to report to the check in window located on the porch of the office to finalize paperwork, have your temperature checked and make payment. A group number will be assigned to you at this time and we will let you know when to report back to the office for the training and gearing process. We would like all students to use hand sanitizer prior to getting geared up and wear a mask or covering of some sort. If you do not have anything suitable, we can provide one for you. All goggles are sanitized before each jump but you will have the option of purchasing your own on site that you can also take home with you. Please make sure that you dress appropriately for the weather and for sliding in on the landing of your skydive.
When you enter the facility, please be aware of your surroundings and practice social distancing. We kindly ask that you refrain from touching counters, door handles and other objects inside. We will have one of our staff members open all doors for you. While inside, it is required that you keep your mask on at all times. If you need to remove your mask for any reason, please notify a staff member and we can accompany you outside. Please remain at least 6 foot away from others unless necessary for training purposes. Understand that even though we are taking all of these precautions the virus is still very relevant. To eliminate all risk of contracting Covid-19 at our location, the only option would be to stay at home and reschedule your skydive for a later date.
Skydiving is an amazing sport and we want it to be a very special experience for you for your first skydive. Please feel free to give us a call or send us an email if you have any questions or concerns about jumping and how the process will work. We are more than happy to go over everything with you. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we look forward to jumping with you this season.
Thanks,
Cleveland Skydiving Center
